'Seconded to BOAC flying Lodestars in November 1944 until end 1945. 1946 - transferred to BEA on its foundation flying Oxfords, then Dakotas until 1947, then Vikings. March 1953 began flying Ambassadors Flew Viscounts as a Senior Captain. On 6 February 1958 flew as second pilot on a special charter flight carrying the Manchester United football team home from Munich which crashed at Munich Airport in a snowstorm on take-off. Rayment was hospitalised with a broken leg and severe head and internal injuries. His leg was subsequently amputated but he died on 15 March without regaining conciousness. Rayment recorded 6 destroyed, 1 damaged and 1 V-1 destroyed victories during WW2.5'
He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross as published in the Supplement to the London Gazette: 'Flying Officer Kenneth Gordon RAYMENT (108000), Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, No. 153 Squadron.'
'...Public Record Office Air 2/8971 has recommendation drafted when he had flown 45 sorties (99 operational hours). Citation also published in RCAF AFRO 1724/43 dated 27 August 1943 as a trainee in Canada (attended No.34 SFTS and No.32 SFTS).
' "This officer has taken part in a large number of operational sorties, many of which have been by night. On one occasion he located an enemy convoy escorted by float planes, Junkers 88s and Focke Wulf 190s. On spite of the presence of the enemy fighters he attacked and shot down a Junkers 88 in flames and damaged one float plane. On the night of 16th May, 1943, Flying Officer Rayment flew into the middle of an enemy formation and destroyed one Junkers 88 and one Heinkel 111. Seven days later he destroyed a Savoia 79 and the following night a Junkers 88. At all times this officer has displayed intense keenness, determination and courage." ' on 27 July 1943.6 He married Edith Mary Grenville Levason, daughter of Cecil Burleigh Leopold Grenville Levason and Lily Iona Angus, on 16 March 1946 at St Lawrence, Chesham Bois, Buckinghamshire, England; and their marriage was recorded at Amersham Registration district in the March quarter 1946.1,7 Kenneth Gordon Rayment died on 15 March 1958 at Rechts de Isar Hospital, Munich, Bavaria, Germany, at age 37.2,8 His estate was probated on 24 April 1958; and the 1958 National Probate Calendar records that he was of 'The Sayers Adversane Billingshurst Sussex' and Probate was granted at Oxford 'to Edith Mary Granville Rayment widow and Jean Elsie Shadrack (wife of Ronald Shadrack)' Jean Elsie Shadrack was his sister.2,9,10,11
