Tobey, Charles William (1880-1953) — also known as Charles W. Tobey — of Temple, Hillsborough County, N.H. Born in Roxbury, Boston, Suffolk County, Mass., July 22, 1880. Republican. Member of New Hampshire state house of representatives, 1915-16, 1919-20, 1923-24; Speaker of the New Hampshire State House of Representatives, 1919-20; member of New Hampshire state senate, 1925-26; Governor of New Hampshire, 1929-31; U.S. Representative from New Hampshire 2nd District, 1933-39; delegate to Republican National Convention from New Hampshire, 1936, 1940; U.S. Senator from New Hampshire, 1939-53; died in office 1953. Died in the Bethesda Naval Hospital at Bethesda, Montgomery County, Md., July 24, 1953. Interment at Miller Cemetery, Temple, N.H.
