JOHN LOTHROP MOTLEY

Motley, John Lothrop (1814-1877) — also known as J. Lothrop Motley — of Massachusetts. Born in Dorchester, Boston, Suffolk County, Mass., April 15, 1814. Member of Massachusetts state house of representatives; U.S. Minister to Austria, 1861-67; Great Britain, 1869-70; Author. Elected to the Hall of Fame for Great Americans in 1910. Died in Dorset, England, May 29, 1877. Interment at Kensal Green Cemetery, London, England.
