South Boston, Boston, Suffolk County, Mass., December 21, 1891. Democrat. Lawyer; delegate to Massachusetts state
constitutional convention, 1917-18; served in the U.S. Army during World War I; member of Massachusetts state house
of representatives, 1920-22; member of Massachusetts state senate, 1923-26; U.S. Representative from Massachusetts,
1928-71 (12th District 1928-63, 9th District 1963-71); elected unopposed 1946, 1948, 1954, 1958, 1960, 1962; Speaker
of the U.S. House, 1963-71; delegate to Democratic National Convention from Massachusetts, 1932, 1940, 1944, 1948,
1956, 1960. Catholic. Member, Elks; Foresters; Knights of Columbus; Moose. Died in Dedham, Norfolk County, Mass.,
November 22, 1980. Interment at St. Joseph's Cemetery, West Roxbury, Boston, Mass.
