CHESTER DELANO PRATT

Chester Delano Pratt, son of George W. and Lucy (Burrell) Pratt, was born September 15, 1838, at Weymouth, Massachusetts. He commenced his classical education at Thetford Academy, Thetford, Vermont, and entered Dartmouth in the Fall of 1859, as a member of the class of 63, but remained with them only one term.

He then entered our class at the beginning of Sophomore year, and remained until the close of the Spring term in 1862, when he left college and enlisted in the Army as a private in the First Massachusetts Cavalry. He served for eighteen months, and was then discharged by reason of disability. He then went to Boston, Massachusetts, where he studied law, and was admitted to the bar in 1866. He went immediately to Linneus, Linn county, Missouri, where he commenced the practice of his profession the same year. He was twice elected Public Administrator of the County, and was for four years the City Attorney of Brookfield, Missouri, where he moved in 1870. He was also engaged at the same time in real-estate business, and in politics a little. He moved to Chicago, Illinois, in 1876, where he has continued up to the present time, engaged in the practice of law. His residence is in South Chicago. He is Secretary of the South Chicago Relief and Aid Society.

He was married December 2, 1867, to Miss Sallie L. Downey, of Clear Spring, Maryland. They have had four children: Anna C., born July 5, 1869; Lucy Burrell, born October 12, 2870; Elizabeth Loring, born April 27, 1872; Mary Downey, born February 12, 1871.

Anna C. died March 27, 1870.
