Son of Geoffrey Whitney Lewis and Edith Louise (Lincoln) Lewis; married, December 21, 1936, to Elizabeth Merrill Locke. Colonel in the U.S. Army during World War II; Foreign Service officer; U.S. Ambassador to Mauritania, 1965-67; Central African Republic, 1967-70. Died on 1 Aug 1992 Rockport, Knox County, Maine.
