Member of Massachusetts state house of representatives, 1828; secretary of state of Massachusetts, 1836; mayor of Boston, Mass., 1849-51. Died July 4, 1872 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts. Interment at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge, Mass.
