LAWRENCE FRANCIS O'BRIEN, JR.

O'Brien, Lawrence Francis, Jr. (1917-1990) — also known as Lawrence F. O'Brien — of Massachusetts. Born in Springfield, Hampden County, Mass., July 17, 1917. Democrat. Served in the U.S. Army during World War II; U.S. Postmaster General, 1965-68; Chairman of Democratic National Committee, 1968-69, 1970-72. Member, American Legion; Elks. His office was the target of the Watergate burglary in 1972. Commissioner of the National Basketball Association, 1975-84. Died, of cancer, September 28, 1990 in New York, New York, New York.
