Josiah DEWEY 1696

Richard, the eldest son of Richard, B. In Windsor, Connecticut., in 1647, M. in Northampton, May 26,1675, and resided in Northampton, MA., until 1696, when he removed to Lebanon, Connecticut., where some of his descendants have continued to reside until the present time; but others have gone out over all the land. They early emigrated to Vermont: from that state some passed into Canada; others westward took their course; and onward still, as new territories and states have arisen, quite to the Pacific Ocean.

Richard was not an original proprietor in the Five Mile purchase, but an allotment was deeded to him, which he subdivided to his children, some of whom settled tn the town and some in the Crank, now Columbia. here the father himself lived, and died nov 4 1708. No monument marks his resting place.
