(1a) 1667/8, 27 Feb: William HILL Jr. of Hockanum had daughter Sarah, age 2 1/2 years. (NOT E: Hockanum, "a hook in the river," lies adjacent to the Nebraska of Wethersfield, Connecticut. It is in East Hartford, which was formed from Hartford in 1783.)
(1c) 1675/6, 18 Feb: The Council reported that the "enemy having come to Hoccanum and shot at William HILL and sorely wounded him, the Council sent forth a party of soldiers to make search for the enemy." Later inquiry identified the Indian who shot HILL and assaulted other English men.
(1b) 1680/1, 25 Feb: (3a) 1680/1, 21 Feb: (1b,3a) William HILLS Sr. of Hocanum within the township of Hartford wrote his will. Bequeathed a parcel of sixscore acres near the end of th e Three Mile lots abutting on Benjamin HILLS & Joseph HILLS on the west & on James CURTICE on the south & on my land on the north, to son William HILLS, to son John HILLS, to son Josep h HILLS, and to son Benjamin HILLS, to daughter Sarah WARD and to daughter Suzanah KILLBURN i n equal proportions. At the death of son William HILL, that proportion I give and bequeath to my grandson the eldest son of my son William who is of the same name.
(3b) 1693, 8 Dec: Inventory of the estate of William HILLS of Hocanum taken by Siborn NICKOLS, James STEELE Senr., and Tho. DICKERSON. Valued at 119.18.06. Lists children: Ebenezer, ag e 17, John, age 14, Joseph, age 10, Mary, age 26, Files, age 24, Hannah, age 21, Esther, ag e 12.
(2a) Estate papers, including a nuncupative will, for William HILLS of Hocanum show that "s ometime after Michalmas (29 Sep) 1692 he stated that his daughter Phillis should have... th e boy HOSSINGTON to be at her dispose till he comes of full age..." (3b) The testimony of Tho mas KILBOURN, age 38 years, and Richard RISLEY, age 45 years, that sometime about Michalmas , 1692, being desired by William HILLS of Hocanum to take notice of what he said, in order t o his disposing of his estate, he being in a weak condition: His daughter Phillis should have one cow & one young beast; & he said something about sheep, & some bedding, & the boy HOSSINGTON to be at her dispose till he comes to fullage; & to his daughters Mary and Hannah 20s . to each of them. Remainder to be equally divided among them.
(3) 1693/4, 1 Mar: Administration of the estate of William HILLS granted to the widow, Rich ard RISLEY and Sergt. KILBOURN to be overseers.
(3) 1696, 8 Apr: Order to distribute the estate of William HILLS: to the widow, her thirds . To the eldest son, a double portion. To the others, to each a single portion. Sergt. Tho s. KILBOURN and Jonathan HILLS, distributors.
