(1) 1636: Removed to Hartford, Connecticut. (1a) Removed to Connecticut, "where he lived several years, without giving such good satisfaction to the consciences of the saints."
(1e) 1639/40, Feb: In the Hartford land inventory, William HILLS held 9 parcels of land , 6 of which were granted to him: 1 acre 1 rood with dwelling house, outhouses, yards and gardens; 7 acres of upland; 9 acres of upland; 1 acre & 2 roods in the South Meadow; another 1 a cre 2 roods in the South Meadow; 1 acre 1 rood in the South Meadow; 517 acres of upland in Hockanum bought of Thomas HOSMORE; 10 acres of meadow in Hockanum bought of Thomas HOSMORE; an d 3 acres 2 roods and 29 rods of meadow in Hockanum bought of Frances ANDREWS. At the end o f this list of parcels is an additional entry, undated: William HILL grants to William HILL his son, to John HILL, Joseph HILL, Benjamin HILL & Thomas KILBORN, that they, their heirs & successors shall forever have free liberty to pass through the said William HILL's lot from th e highway on the east to Hoccanum Meadow on the west on the south side of William HILL's lot , to pass with cart & horse according as they shall have occasion.
(1h) 1640, 4 Jun: William HILL of Hartford was fined 4 pounds for "buying a stolen piece o f Mr. PLUM's man and breaking open the cobbler's hogshead & pack."
(1i) 1648, 7 Dec: In the probate of the estate of Richard RISLEY, William HILLS is required to post bond for the payment of legacies to the RISLEY children and to provide for their ed ucation.
(1h,i) 1650: Edward HARRISON by a nuncupative will gave William HILLS his chest and content s because HILLS "was his countryman and that he had no other that he knew in the country."
(1d) 1643/4, 29 Jan: Appointed Hartford Constable.
(1h) 1644, Dec: William HILLS sued Peter BASSAKER, Hartford, Connecticut.
(1c,h) 1649, 24 Apr: Richard FELLOWS sued him for 39s. HILL failed to appear and lost the c ase.
(1h) 1650, 25 Jan: Servant Richard HARROW was assigned over to William HILL of Hartford fo r his remaining time by Thomas ALLCOTT of Hartford.
(1c) 1653, 18 May: Connecticut General Court ordered that the inhabitants of the east side of the Great River are exempted from training with the towns on the west side, and are to meet on the east side as William HILL shall appoint & train there together. William HILL to return the names of those that do not meet according to appointment, as notice shall be given them.
(1h) 1655, 7 Jun: William HILL sued Edward ANDREWS over the loss of a mare.
(1c) 1669, Oct: William HILLS Sr. on a list of freemen on the south side of Hartford.
(1c) 1675/6, 18 Feb: The Council reported that the "enemy having come to Hoccanum and shot at William HILL and sorely wounded him, the Council sent forth a party of soldiers to make search for the enemy." Later inquiry identified the Indian who shot HILL and assaulted other English men.

(1f) 1680/1, 25 Feb: (2a) 1680/1, 21 Feb: (1f,2a) William HILLS Sr. of Hocanum within the township of Hartford wrote his will. Called himself weak in body through old age. Made wife Mary HILLS and son Jonathan HILLS joint executors. Gave wife the use and improvement of 1/2 of my house & lands that I now live in & upon, and half of all my stock cattle and moveables during her natural life, which said lands are 8 acres on the east side of my dwelling house an d 18 acres on the west side of my said house; also the use and improvement of 1/2 of 17 rods of unimproved lands and 8 acres at the 3 mile lots during her natural life. Gave to son Jonathan HILLS the other full half of the aforesaid houses and lotments, and after wife's decease that land left to her, with all the cattle stock and moveables; that my son Jonathan behav e himself suitably to his mother after my death, hoping she will encourage him that he may so do. Any disagreements to be settled by the overseers. Gave to daughter Mary HILLS 2/3 o f a 25 rod lot abutting on the Widow ANDREWS' house lot on the west, running to the end of the 3 mile lots east, abutting on the country Highway on the south & on the Widow ANDREWS' lot north that she bought of Deacon William HOLTON, one third part being taken off which I have sold to Mr. William PITKIN; the other third to daughter Hanna KILLBERN. Gave to Mary land I bought of Thomas HOSMORE of Hartford in the south division which I have not yet taken up . A parcel of sixscore acres near the end of the Three Mile lots, abutting on Benjamin HILLS & Joseph HILLS on the west, & on James CURTICE on the south, & on my lands on the north, be queathed to son William HILLS, to son John HILLS, to son Joseph HILLS, and to son Benjamin HILLS, to daughter Sarah WARD and to daughter Suzanah KILLBURN in equal proportions. At the death of son William HILL, that proportion I give and bequeath to my grandson the eldest son of my son William who is of the same name. One year after the death of my wife Mary HILLS, son Jonathan HILLS shall pay out of the estate 10 pounds to daughter Mary HILLS. In case of Jonathan's death before the death of my wife without issue, overseers to distribute to my surviving children according to their good and sound discretion. Loving friends Maj. John TALCOTT , Mr. Jonathan GILBERT and Corporal John GILBERT appointed overseers with power of survivorship. The revenues of the lands in Farmington that I have right unto by and in right of my wife that it be duly demanded and recevied for the help of my wife.

(1f,2a) 1683, Jul: (1f) The inventory of the estate of William HILLS Sr., deceased, was taken, the value being given as 274 pounds 2d, but incorrectly summed, including real estate valued at 259 pounds 14s.: the dwelling house and half the barn, 42 pounds; 31 acres of upland fenced in & improved, 196 popunds; 217 acres of land, 21 pounds 14s.; and more upland lying near the widow ANDREWS, "we are not informed how many acres," no value stated.
