ELIJAH JOHN HENRY LOXTON is my great-great grandfather (I have a picture of him taken when he was in his late 30's - early 40's). He was b. 1841 in England. Father's name was George, no mother's name yet. Married ELIZA CRIBB, July 14, 1861 in Bristol, England. Lived on Lead House Lane in Bristol. He was a blacksmith, she was a tailoress.  (I have their certified marriage license).

ELIJAH J.H. and ELIZA immigrated to Ontario, Canada abt. 1868-1870, with 3 children who had been born in England. They settled in Toronto and Stratford, Ontario until abt. 1878 when the family moved to Petrolia, Lambton Co, Ontario, CAN.
My great-grandfather, WILLIAM HENRY, was their 4th child and their first to be born in CAN. ELIJAH J.H. may have worked for the railroad while living in Toronto and Stratford (this is the portion of his life I am trying to find more information on - trying to fill this gap between 1866-1878). After moving to Petrolia he worked for Stevenson Boiler Works (located on Robert Street where the Fletcher Hotel now stands) until it went out of business. He built his house directly across the road from the company. After the closing of Stevenson's he opened his own boilermaking shop on Centre Street which was also the same location as his home...probably on the same parcel of land.
ELIJAH J.H. is claimed to be the first man to put a rivet patch on a boiler which saved many hours of labor in boiler repairing. Oil was discovered on his 5 acre parcel and after his retirement he supervised his own oil properties. He lived in Petrolia for the rest of his life and died Feb 15, 1933. He is buried at Hillsdale Cemetery, Lambton Co, Petrolia, ONT (92 years of age).
