Hello,

I am hoping you can help with some information on the Prevost family of Cherenton, or lead me to
someone who may be able to assist me.

My Prevost ancestors are as follows:

Marie Clara Prevost, b 1857, married Theodore Stephen Labuave b 1850 (my great-grandparents)

Joseph Alcee Prevost (fought in 18th Regiment of Alexandria as a soldier in Civil War), b 1828,
married Marie Rodrigues (an Isleno from the Canary Islands), b 1841 (my great-great grandparents)

Francois Prevost dit Collet, b 1795, married Madeleine Pouponne Prevost dit Bation, b 1798 (my great-great-great grandparents)

Francois Prevost dit Collet, b 1752, married Magdeleine Borel, b 1766 (my great-great-great-great grandparents)

I am writing a Cookbook/memoir about four generations of my Cajun family, beginning with Marie
Clara Prevost and her husband, T. S. Labauve. The book has been accepted by St. Martin's Press
and is set for publication in Spring of 2006.

I am lacking information in regard to Joseph AlceePrevost and Marie Rodrigues, other than their dates of death. I would be most appreciative if
you have any information as to where in Cherenton they lived, if they resided on their farm
until their deaths, or leads to any of their descendents. There were 13 children, so I'm hoping
I may have some undiscovered cousins in the area. (Marie Clara and T. S. lived on a farm in
Ashton, across from the Vacherie Plantation on Hwy. 83 and Vacherie Road following their
marriage in 1875.)

Further information that may be of interest to you:
The Great-grandparents of Marie Clara were Francois Prevost and Magdeleine
Borel, recipients of a Spanish Land Grant. In his Essay New Iberia, Essays on the Town and Its
People, compiled by Glen R. Conrad he writes, The two most extensive of these grants
(Spanish Land Grants) were those at what would be opposite ends of the town (New Iberia).
These were the Prevost and Boutte grants. Francois Prevost (Marie Clara’s Great-grandfather)
may well be considered the father of the modern town of New Iberia, for it was from the lands
of his grant that succeeding subdivisions came to compose the nucleus of the 19th and 20th
Century town. In spite of these land holdings, Francois and Magdeleine settled in St. Mary
Parish, where generations of my ancestors were born, married, raised their families and were
buried.

T Thank you for any assistance you may be able to offer.

Best regards,

Terri
