Explanatory Note S.A. White

The documents cited by the three authors above (J.W. de Forest, M.
Missoffe, and Father Vincent-de-Lerins) permit reconstruction of the
de Forest lineage back as far as Melchior de Forest and Jacqueline
Bronchin. The present writer shares M. Missoffe's opinion that they do not
support the suppositions put forward by the other two that would make this
Melchior a direct descendant of either Gilles or Gaspard de Forest.2
