Dutch Vessels to New Netherlands.










        Nothing is known about Abraham Klock  prior to  his appearance  in  New Netherlands records  in early 1640.    In a document  signed  on Feb. 21 of  that year at  the  house  of   Jan  Damen in New Amsterdam,  Abraham contracted to  build the first structures in the settlement of  Achter Col.   Its  first  settlers, as well as Adriaen Van der Donck, arrived on Aug. 8, 1641 on  the "Eyckenboom".  Based on this, it is likely that Abraham Klock  immigrated  to  Americaon one of the vessles listed below.

                                In the  employment  of  the Dutch
                                West  Indies   Company,    Henry
                                Hudson visited and explored area
                                around Manhattan  Island and the
                                lower Hudson River.   His explor-
                                ation provided  the basis  for   the
                                Dutch claim to the area.
     1613-1614         TYGER. Capt. Adriaen Block and
                                his crew were temporarily maroon-
                                ed when their ship burned & sank
                                in the Hudson River.
  Winter, 1623         DE MAKREEL and other vessels.
                                Contrary to much historical opinion,
                                several sources  state  that this col-
                                lection of vessels brought thirty one
                                families  from  Leyden in South Hol-
                                land. Some settled on Staten Island.
                                Eighteen families  settled near  Fort
                                Orange. Capt: Cornelius J. May.
  Spring, 1624         NIEUW NEDERLANDT.       Most
                                sources state  that  this vessel  was
                                the first to bring European  settlers
                                to New Netherlands. On it  were 30
                                mostly Waloon families.   Twelve of
                                those settled  on  Manhattan  island
                                and   along   the   Connecticut   and
                                Delaware  rivers.  Eighteen  settled
                                in and around Fort Orange (Albany,
                                NY), Capt: Cornelius J. May.
      Jan, 1625          D'ORANGEBOOM, DE MAKREEL,
                                SWARTE PAERT, SCHAEP and two
                                other vessels.
              1625          RUIJTER.   Privately  sponsored  an
                                unaffiliated   w/   Dutch   West   India
                                Company.

               1632         EEWDRACHT, w/ new governor, Peter
                                Minuit.
               1633         WALVIS, w/ David de Vries, patroon.

  March, 1633         ZOUTBERG. Among  passengers  were
                                the first settlers specifically destined for
                                Rensse  laerwyck,   who   had   been  re-
                                cruited in Nyerk, The Netherlands. Also
                                on board was  a  garrison  of  104  troops.
