    Important information about this map

This map was created with ArcView 2.1b and Corel Photopaint. It is a comparison summary of several sources: a local paper map from Southern Engineering, USGS maps, Louisiana GIS CD cemetery database extractions, local library transcripts of cemeteries, on-line transcripts, and personal cemetery visits. The map cannot be viewed in Mozilla/Firefox and is best viewed with Internet Explorer. In Internet Explorer use your mouse to roll over the map and view the cemetery name. For those cemeteries with multiple files or unknown transcriptions you will have to view the alpha index to the left to find the transcription or view the GIS data.

    About...

Promoting awareness is the first step to preservation.

Why do we need Louisiana Cemetery Preservation?

A number of Louisiana cemeteries do not appear on the USGS maps and are unknown, abandoned, or endangered. The LA CEMETERY PRESERVATION board and email list is to organize and support the historical significance of these Louisiana cemeteries as well as make others aware of an unknown or unidentified cemetery. Those interested in this board may be genealogists, historians, society members, parish government, churches or community members, those familiar with using remote sensing equipment and GPS in locating cemeteries. If you happen to come across a cemetery site, you are encouraged to post! (In order to identify cemeteries to USGS for inclusion, GIS coordinates must be given.) Other online resources:
