Working on the Past For Your Future

Living in the old days.

WGHA was organized in September of 1996 in the presence of 13 brave souls, most of whom still remain true to the cause! We merged with the old Winn Historical Society in 1997, and from our humble beginnings we've grown to one of the most active societies in the state.

Our purpose is to research, record, publish and preserve genealogical and historical information about the people, places, and events in the history of Winn and neighboring parishes; and to promote and further an understanding of genealogical research, emphasizing sound genealogical proof standards, as well as proper documentation and source citation.

We have permanent physical facilities graciously provided by the parish police jury, with ample room for meetings, a kitchenette that we put to good use at every meeting, and a filled to the brim library room.

In our library we have over 500 books, journal publications, and assorted microfilm; a computer with internet access for patron use; and a top of the line microfilm reader/printer.

Our journal "Legacies & Legends of Winn Parish, Louisiana", has won awards and continues to garner praise from far and near.

We meet at 11:00 a. m. every second Saturday of January, March, May, July, September, and November.

We welcome anyone with an interest in Winn Parish and the surrounding area to join us!
