    The Archives & Special Collections, which is focused primarily on southern African American history and culture, is comprised of records and material from New Orleans University, Straight College and Dillard University, a United Methodist Church Collection, a rare book collection covering architecture, African American literature and Southern history and Matthew Henson artifacts.

    Founded by Judah Touro in 1852, Touro Infirmary is New Orleans' oldest private hospital. Its collection (1852 to present) includes the hospital's historical records, annual reports, minute books, 19th-century admission records and photographs. Artifacts include early medical instruments and nursing uniforms.
