My search is for the ancestors of
Elizabeth SHAW who married John Lankshear - 1838 - my great grand parents

John Shaw gffDNA - Facts

John and Elizabeth Shaw had 3 daughters born Banbury,  a son in nearby Wheatley who dies in Birmingham. Finally they married in Leeds in 1803 she was Elizabeth Harker. A son born there and Henry descendants give me several DNA confirming matches and everyone goes to London. Liz dies these 1838

BUT where was Liz born. Well Nottingham and a sister born there confirmed with a DNA match.
and their father a match for that DNA match confirmed born in Peterborough. cM below report cM limits for me.

My tree Ancestry Elisabeth Harker - Facts and John Shaw - Facts

Children of with John Shaw are Henry Elizabeth Anne Harriett John. Alas John died when a baby. Henry a lot of DNA matches. Harriett is looking after my grandfather in 1851 census.

I thought I had John Shaw death in 1854 found and a workhouse in 1852 saying born 1776 and Leeds.
But 2022 bought death cert and that man was a retired grocer not a leather dresser.

Finally found him with a DNA match 21 Sep 1777 Christening Chellaston, Derbyshire, England

That family moved around

Death of my ggm but John Shaw when
1838

and working on John's death which I hope confirms age for when he was born. He witnessed his daughter's 1836 wedding and obviously was alive when his wife died as cert does not say widow.
So after 1838 be good if you could find.

Elizabeth had some mixed up places in census

1851 Elizabeth Lankshear Wife Mar 36 Worstead Worcestershire
1861 Elizabeth           45 Oxfordshire
1871 Elizabeth LANKSHEER, wife, marr, 55, born Oxford Banbury

1816 ELIZABETH SHAW Christening and sister's Anne 1817 and Harriet 1819 at Banbury and brother John 1821 at Wheatley
all baptisms for parents John and Elizabeth Shaw and John is in 3 a leather dresser or once a skinner.

Then they disappear from my searches until
ANN SHAW to  JOHN SNUGGS Marriage: 24 JUL 1836 Saint Mary, Newington, Surrey, England
cannot trace this couple in 1841 or 1851
The witness signature looks like my ggm Elizabeth Shaw and the other is I expect her or brother rather than father
looking for Anne Shaw - sister of Elizabeth born Banbury 1817

Sister Harriett married in 1836 one witness is John her brother unless her father Henry and Harriet LONG (formerly SHAW)

then my Grandfather 1851 Thomas Sylvester Lankshear age 3 with Aunt Harriet LONG (formerly SHAW) which was great as it confirms the sisters and hence the parents

The 1838 marriage of my great grand parents does not help as the witnesses are brother and sister of Johyn Lankshear

and re the 4 children I think I see John Shaw the brother of 1821 on two of his sisters marriages but I have not found him after the two 1836 marriages

Now back to the parents

Back to the parents
1. I have no idea of their ages except John might have been baptised in 1800
2. or what happened to them after son John born 1821
3. I assume they went to Southwark with their daughters especially as it was an area for leather dressers.

4. I have looked at 1841 but no clarity. A lot of burials for John Shaw
5. I do not know Mrs Elizabeth Shaw's maiden name
6. I do not know when the married I assume near 1816

7. I have played with a 1815 marriage at Coventry to Mrs Lee a widow. Perhaps from 1792 marriage but not satisfied

Looking for John Shaw the father of Banbury possibles - impossible to look for his wife until we have a marriage

There is a baptism on 27 April 1800 at Banbury of a John SHAW, son George & Mary, Boat-builder.

So first sister was born 1816 which is an early marriage for someone born 1800 unless that is a late baptism

Looking for George and Mary Shaw a boat builder of Banburyshire and his son John

other SHAW data

and here is some more on Henry and Harriet LONG (formerly SHAW) which does not seem to help find Harriett's parents

Shaw in Shipton under Wychwood no George or John

The SHAW's are from Banbury and this site is very good  Banburyshire: A website designed for you to share your family history with others and for other links see Oxfordshire Links

And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age
