ROBERTS CEMETERY
Provencal, Natchitoches Parish, LA

The Roberts Cemetery is located south of Provencal, LA on the Harmony Road, approximately one and one-half miles past the Harmony Church and Cemetery. It is situated on a hill, with the older burials located in the upper corner from the entrance gate, in the wooded area. The Cemetery is fenced, mowed, and well-maintained. The earliest marked burial is that of Mary Warren Bates, wife of A.T. Bates (1841 / 1890). There are nine other graves circa 1890/1897.

Local folklorists say that Mary Roberts, young daughter of Silas Roberts, was the first person to be interred in the Roberts Cemetery, being buried near her home. It is believed that Silas Roberts is also buried in this cemetery; however neither of the graves are marked. It is also believed that Sallie Smith Davis, the young married daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Seaborn Smith is buried here as well, but no marker has been located.

Directions: Travel south of Provencal, LA one and one-half miles, turn east onto Harmony Road at the Harmony Church sign, continue for about five miles, and Roberts Cemetery is on the right. Places of interest on the way to the Roberts Cemetery: the Harmony Church and its two cemeteries, Harmony Cemetery to the right of the church and the Brister Cemetery to the left; and the roadside graves marked Unknown Graves. Both of these sites will be within the last two miles prior to reaching Roberts Cemetery.
