PLACE NAME

NOTES

Altoona

Located west of Tallulah on Hwy 80 about 2 miles east of Delhi.  Was a railroad stop on the Missouri Pacific Line just north of Tallulah.  Since the Delta Eagle quit running many years ago, (it never stopped there, though) the stop was abandoned.  It may have had its roots in a plantation there.  (Submitted by Max Rosenzweig)

Ashley

Large plantation just outside of Tallulah city limits.  (Submitted by Max Rosenzweig)

Barnes

On Hwy 80 between Tallulah and Mound.  Just over 2 miles from Tallulah. (Submitted by Max Rosenzweig)

Delta

Also referred to as Delta Point, just across the river from Vicksburg.  During the 1940s it thrived, sort of, because it had a night club with gambling.  (Comments by Dick Sevier - Submitted by Max Rosenzweig)

Eagle Lake

A popular spot in the 1940s.  The American Legion had a building there which could be rented for parties, etc.  (Submitted by Max Rosenzweig)

Mound

Was, and still remains, a company store, although the interstate now by-passes it.  (Submitted by Max Rosenzweig)

Omega

Located north of Tallulah near the river, just south of the East
Carroll Parish line.  May have been the name of the Gilfoil plantation, just north of Tallulah.  (Submitted by Max Rosenzweig)

-

Talla Bena

Talla Bena - a company store on Hwy 65 north of Tallulah.  A
plantation was also named Talla Bena.  During the 1930-40s, a Mr. Wroten, Marion "Slim" Wroten's brother, and the father of Roy Wroten, were there.  (Submitted by Max Rosenzweig)

MILLIKEN’S BEND
.
Milliken's Bend was within "Carroll Parish" boundaries at one time.  It was located along the Mississippi River.  But as the Mississippi is bound to do - the course has
changed naturally, & forced by man, through the years.  The town of Milliken's Bend is
no longer there.
.
The Madison Parish Clerk's Office has an old map on the wall that shows the location by Township,  Range & Section.
