A. Gilbert has advised the Journal that he has been instructed by the post office department to move the post office into the new federal building and be ready for business on September 23. Mr. Gilbert says that this moving is going to be a big job, and that with the co-operation of the patrons of the office, he hopes to accomplish it with the least inconvenience to everyone. But, in order to do this, he says that it will be necessary that nothing but first class mail be worked in the present building after closing hours on Saturday and asks that the public who may be expecting packages over the week-end be patient with the force and not ask to let them have same because it will be impossible to do so. None of the package mail will be worked after closing hours Saturday until Monday morning. In order that the public may be inconvenienced as little as possible, Mr. Gilbert says that he will be at the new building Sunday from 1:30 in the afternoon until 6:00 and will make box assignments and deliver keys for same to those who may call between those hours. No one will be able to get mail from the new building until Monday morning and everyone will have to have a key in order to get into the box which has been assigned them. All first class mail will be placed in the boxes at the present post office building Saturday afternoon and Sunday. The door of the lobby will remain open until 8 o'clock evening for the convenience of the public and those who have boxes may get their mail at the present office until that time. The new post office will be open for the purpose of assigning boxes and delivering keys from 6 o'clock Monday morning for the convenience of those who go to work early. All boxes have keys and a deposit of 20 cents is required for each key. Each box comes equipped with three keys should that many be desired. The deposit is to be refunded when the box is released and the key returned to the post office.
