All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************** Dr. William Purnell Yerger - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal January 16, 1943 Rites Held Here Tuesday Afternoon For Dr. Yerger Funeral services for Dr. William Purnell Yerger well known Tallulah physician, who died of a heart attack in an ambulance Friday while en route from Tallulah to Vicksburg, were held here Tuesday afternoon with Rev. J. Dean Maurer, rector of Trinity Episcopal church officiating. He was assisted by Dr. James M. Owens, rector of St. Mark's Episcopal Church of Shreveport, where Dr. Yerger had resided for many years. Interment was in the Silver Cross cemetery here. Dr. Yerger, a native of Milliken's Bend in this parish, and the son of a doctor, received his medical training at Tulane University and in Memphis. He practiced medicine in Mound, Shreveport and Tallulah. He was a member of one of the oldest families of Madison parish and was a member of the Episcopal Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Helen Young Yerger, a teacher in the Tallulah High School, A daughter, Mrs Edwin Stuart Dew, of Cherry Point, N. C., a son, William Purnell Yerger, Jr. of the U. S. Marine Corps, two sisters, Mrs. Mary Wilson and Mrs. Jessie Y. Bonney, both of Tallulah, and a brother, Chester Yerger of Houston, Texas. Williams Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. The pallbearers were: active, W. E. Regenold, Dr. F. A. DeJean, Richard Almond, William Yerger, Lucian Farr, Maxwell Yerger, W. H. Hewes and Erle Read, Honorary, Dr. A. P. Crain and Dr. Malcome E. Kaffie, both of Shreveport, Dr. Gus Street and Dr. George Street, both of Vicksburg, and Dr. A. T. Palmer, Dr. Howard Sevier, Dr. E. Otis Edgerton, Dr. Dean Allen, and Dr. G. W. Gaines, all of Tallulah and other close friends,
