All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************ Andrew Learned Yerger - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal, August 28, 1975 Andrew Learned Yerger of Mound, one of the organizers of the Southern National Bank in Tallulah and a past president the Madison Parish Police Jury died at his residence Friday after a short illness. He was a director of the bank and had served since 1945 on the board of the Pan American Life Insurance Co. of New Orleans. He was also a director of the Staple Cotton Association of Greenwood, Miss., a member of the Louisiana State Soil Conservation Committee and the Madison Parish Soil Conservation Service. The well-known planter received his early elementary education on Hecla Plantation at Mound. For a year and a half he studied at Lawrenceville School, a preparatory school for boys in New Jersey. Yerger also attended high school in Natchez and Vicksburg where he graduated with the class of 1924. He entered Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge where he continued his studies to 1929, majoring in Agriculture. Yerger was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Tallulah where funeral services for him were held at 10 a.m. Saturday with Fathers Joel C. Treadwell and Norvel Yerger officiating. He had served on the church vestry for a number of years. Burial was in Silver Cross Cemetery in Tallulah under the direction of Crothers Funeral Home. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Elise Clark Yerger of Mound; two daughters, Mrs. James A. Federick of Lake Providence, and Mrs. Glynne A. Simpson of Jackson, Miss.; three brothers, Maxwell Yerger of Tallulah, and Edward M. Yerger and William Yerger, both of Mound: and four grandchildren. Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased; Rufus Taft Yerger Jr., Edward Maxwell Yerger Jr., Joseph W. Yerger, William E. Clark Jr., Charles Clifton Clark III and Richard Craig Clark. Honorary pallbearers were the directors of the Pan American Life InŽsurance Co., the directors of the Southern National Bank of Tallulah, the directors of the Staple Cotton Cooperative Association, the Louisiana Association of Conversation Districts and the super-visors of the Madison Soil and Water Conservation District. The family requests donations be made to the Heart Fund, the Trinity Episcopal Church or a favorite charity.
