All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************ Dorothy Maxwell Woodyear - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal, August 18, 1961 Services Held On Friday for Mrs. Woodyear Dorothy Maxwell Woodyear, beloved mother and wife, died Thursday evening, August 10th in Vicksburg, Miss. after a long illness. Mrs. Woodyear was the wife of E. C. Woodyear, prominent planter in northeast Louisiana. She was born June 8, 1910 on Locust Grove Plantation. Her parents were F. L. Maxwell, who was from Sullivan, Ind., and her mother was the former Miss Matilda Routh Bowie of Natchez, Miss. She attended school at Mound, La. and was a student at All Saints College, Vicksburg, Miss. She attended Sullins College, Bristol, Va., and Breneau College, Gainesville, Ga. Dorothy Maxwell and E. C. Wood year were married December 19th, 1935 at Mound. They had four daughters, Dorothy Ann, who is now Mrs. Jack Millikin of Tallulah, Susan, who is now Mrs. Richard Linden of Hattiesburg, Miss., and Misses Emily and Mary Woodyear of Tallulah, and one son, Carneal Woodyear, also of Tallulah. Surviving her besides her children le is her devoted husband, E. C. (Blue) Woodyear, 3 sisters, Miss Alma Maxwell of Tallulah, and Mrs. J. P. Arbuthnot of Canton, Miss., and Mrs. Flora Potts of Monroe, La. Mrs. Woodyear, who before her illness, actively interested in the community and had a host of friends, who were grieved by her illness. She was a member of the Episcopal Church. Services were held Friday afternoon from Trinity Episcopal Church with the Rev. Richard Cook of Bastrop Church officiating.Interment followed in the family plot, Silver Cross Cemetery. Pall bearers were: Mr. Maxwell Yerger, Mr. Andrew Yerger, Mr.James Federick of Vicksburg, Miss., Mr. Rufus Yerger, Mr. Franco of Vicksburg, Miss., Mr. Nolan Dixon, Dr. Preston Herring and Mr. Joe Clark. Honorary pallbearers were all friends of the family. Mrs. Woodyear will always be remembered here for her untiring devotion to her family, taking an interest and active part in all their activities.
