Wood - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal April 19, 2000 Funeral services for Mr. D. D. Wood, age 85, of Tallulah, were held Wednesday, April 19. in the First Baptist Church in Tallulah, with Rev. John Rushing officiating. Burial followed in Silver Cross Cemetery in Tallulah under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home. Mr. Wood died Monday, April 17, in the Madison Parish Hospital in Tallulah. He was born October 22, 1914 in Eupora, Miss., to Noel and Maymc Reed Wood. He served his community well having served as president of the Madison Parish Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Rotary District Governor, Baseball League for Boys and as a member of First Baptist Church he was proud of his contributions in the building of the present facility and later as a Trustee and teacher of young men. He was President of Wood Agricultural Service until his retirement in 1980 and had developed thousands of acres in the parish. He was active also in the field of woodworking and as a locksmith. He accepted Christ as a teenager and was baptized in the Baptist Church of Merigold, Miss. He graduated from Mississippi State University where he engaged in major sports, was a member of the M Club and Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He married Doris Sherman, June 21, 1938 in the Merigold, Miss. Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Doris "Dottie" Wood, of Tallulah; three sons, all of Tallulah: Donald and Nancy Wood, Robert and Suzanne Wood and Hubert Wood; two daughters: Judy Wood Lancaster and husband Rob of Mandeville, La., and Suzy Wood McDermott and husband Joe of Houston, Tex.; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Memorials can he made to the First Baptist Church, Building Fund, 700 Bayou Drive, Tallulah.
