Whitaker died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, at the Madison Parish Hospital in Tallulah. He was 89. Mr. Whitaker was a farmer and retired truck driver for the State of Louisiana. He had lived in Tallulah for more than 65 years. He was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include four sons, Wesley Whitaker, James Whitaker, Melvin Whitaker and Carlton Whitaker, all of Tallulah; four daughters, Dora Mae Koehler of Bay Town, Texas, Paula Ainsworth of Tallulah, Attie Kay Day of Monroe and Connie Walker of Redwood; one sister, Mandy McGill of Tallulah; 23 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. John Rushing officiating. Burial will follow at Silver Cross Cemetery in Tallulah. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
