H. Cap Todd Dies Of Heart Attack Sunday; Native Of Morehouse Parish; Lived In Tallulah Since 1921 Colvin Hiram Todd, prominent business man of Tallulah, died suddenly early Sunday morning, January 1st at his home shortly after the New Year. Funeral services were held in Trinity Episcopal Church Monday afternoon at two o'clock with the Rev. William S. Spilman officiating followed by burial in the Todd family plot in Christ Church Cemetery in Bastrop, La., with Young's Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Active pallbearers were Messrs. R. C. Gaines, George Kimbrough, Lamar T. Loe, J. W. Love, L. G. Storey, Francis Ward, Dr. George M. Webb and Mr. George S. Yerger, Jr. Mr. Todd, a native of Bastrop, was the son of the late Robert Barr Todd and Gertrude Colvin Todd. He received his early education in the public Schools of Morehouse Parish and while a student of the University of Chicago in Chicago, Ill., he enlisted in the Army during World War I ,as a private being honorably dischargedat the war's end with the rank of captain. He served with distinction under General Douglas McArthur in the famous Rainbow Division and received a special citation for bravery. In 1920 Mr. Todd moved from his native home to Tallulah where he was first connected with the Dermott Grocery Company. Early in the 1930's he established his own wholesale house and was owner and manager of this company, The Delta Cash Wholesale Grocery, at the time of his death. Best known as Captain Todd to his host of friends, he was a devout member of Trinity Episcopal Church having served many times on its Vestry. A past commander of the local Scott-Nicols-Voak Post of the American Legion, he also was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and chairman of the Madison Parish Selective Service. Mr. Todd had the distinction of serving for 25 consecutive years as Parish Chairman of the Madison Parish American Red Cross. He helped found the Tallulah Golf Club and was a member of the executive board of the Tallulah Country Club, successor to the Golf Club. Survivors include his widow, the former Miss Lucille Botkin; one son, Robert Colvin Todd and one daughter, Mrs. Charles Guinn, six grand children ; one sister, Mrs. J. H. Morris of Bastrop, and two brothers, O. Keith Todd of Durban, South Africa, and C. B. Todd of Long Island, California.
