"Teddy" Thompson Jr. - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal February 10, 1999 Funeral services for Mr. Vernon R. "Teddy" Thompson Jr., age 75, of Tallulah were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7, in the chapel of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bill Echols officiating. Burial followed in Silver Cross Cemetery in Tallulah. Mr. Thompson died Friday. Feb. 5, 1999, at his home in Tallulah after a lengthy illness. He was born in Vicksburg. Miss., but had lived in Tallulah his entire life. He was a retired employee of nearly 40 years of Montrose Oil Company of Tallulah and was affiliated with the Episcopal Church of Tallulah. Mr. Thompson served with the amphibian force of the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific for a year aboard the S.S. Typhoon: U.S.S. Rutilicus Liberty Ship: USNRB 5th Battalion: battles included such names as Tarawa, Saipan, Rdi and Tenian PC2c. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. V. R. Thompson Sr. and a sister, Louise Burrow. Survivors include his wife, Ophelia Ammons Thompson; a daughter, Adolphine Carole of Mountainair, New Mexico: a son, Christopher A. Friis of Tallulah: and two granddaughters, Christy Ann Williams of Peru, Indiana, and Angela Marie Friis of Tallulah. Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
