Thomas - Madison Parish, Louisiana From The Vicksburg Herald May 21, 1925 MRS. NAT THOMAS PASSES AWAY Mrs. Elizabeth C. Thomas, widow of the late Nat Thomas, passed away yesterday afternoon at her Louisiana home in Madison Parish, and there is much grief in the hearts of all those who knew her, both in Vicksburg and in the community in which she had passed the greater part of her useful life. The remains were prepared for burial by Undertaker Fisher last evening and will be conveyed to this city on the 9:30 ferry this morning, accompanied by the grieving relatives and many sorrowing friends. The funeral services will be held at the home of Mrs. W. E. Flippin, Rev. Charles E. Woodson, rector of the Christ Church, officiating. The following will serve as pallbearers: George S. Yerger, W. S. Craig, A. J. Sevier, Jr., Lawrence Yerger, John E. Yerger, J. L. Cason, S. B. Bettis, R. J. Clark, Alex Clark. Interment will take place in the city cemetery. Deceased, who was 66 years of age, is survived by her son, Frank Thomas, of Thomastown, La., and a daughter, Mrs. Arthur Bray, of Dallas Texas. She also leaves two sisters Mrs. W. E. Flippin and Miss Ida Shields, of this city, and three brothers, Rev. Van W. Shields, of Jacksonville, Fla., Dr. W. B. Shields, of St. Louis, Mo., and Capt. Thomas H. Shields, of Jackson, Miss., all of whom have the sincere sympathy of numerous Vicksburg and Louisiana friends. Mrs. Thomas, who was related by marriage to Mrs. W. H. Fitzhugh, Miss Lelia Luckett and Miss Rosa Thomas, of this city was a member of one of the most prominent families in this section of the South and in the early years of her married; life lived in Vicksburg, where memories of her lovely disposition and recollections of the gracious hospitality of her home still linger in the hearts of friends of a former generation. She will be sincerely mourned by all those who knew and loved her.
