Thigpen died Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 61. A native of Tallulah, Mr. Thigpen had lived in Vicksburg since 1972. He had worked as a welder for R.G. LeTourneau and Blansett's Ornamental Iron Works, retiring in 1989. He was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Cole Thigpen of Vicksburg; a son, Michael Thigpen of Monroe, La.; a daughter, Kelly Thomas of West Monroe, La.; his mother, Bernice Phillips of Tallulah; two stepchildren, David Hintson and Bobbie Lou Rogers, both of Redwood; two sisters, Delia Trichell of Tallulah and Ann Wilhite of Haughton, La.; three brothers, William Thigpen of Redwood; Arthur Thigpen of Tallulah and Dexter Phillips of Alexandria, La.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Cletus Moar officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Friday until the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Karsten Simrall, Gary Butler, Hosie Thomas, Johnny Griffin, Jeff Skipper, Don Hollowell and Doyle Rogers. Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Blansett, Sonny Keen, Raymond Baker, Tony Haggard, Charles Thomas, R.G. Hollowell, Newell Simrall, Donald Kelley, Mike Noble, Eddie Hoover and Dr. Paul Pierce.
