Spigener - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal May 28, 1965 Funeral Is Held On Wednesday For R. R. Spigener Funeral services were held for R. R. Spigener Wednesday morning in the Chapel of the Cupit-Young Funeral Home here, with Dr. David Shepherdson, Sr., of Lake Providence, officiating. Interment followed the services in the Silver Cross Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Cupit-Young Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Rodney Naylor, Elmer Neill, C. E. Hester, G. L. Smith, H. C. Sevier, Jr., Jesse Anderson, Rufus Yerger and Barton Sevier. Mr. Spigener died unexpectedly at his residence Monday night after an apparent heart attack. Mr. Spigener was originally from the Carolinas and was assessor here for twelve years, having announced after that time that he would retire and would not be a candidate for reelection. He came to Tallulah as a young man to take charge of the local light and water plant, which at that time was owned and operated by the Village of Tallulah. Then the plant was run from nearly dark until 12 o'clock midnight, when it was shut down. Under his management the plant was enlarged and service extended until service was supplied day and night. Later, the facility was purchased by the Louisiana Power & Light Company and Mr. Spigener went with that company as the local manager. Later he retired from that position and sometime after ran for and was elected as assessor. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ruth Spigener, of Tallulah, one sister and two nieces, all of North Carolina.
