Spencer, a prominent lawyer of Tallulah, and member of the Town Council of that city little city, yesterday afternoon, shortly after 5 o'clock. Mr. Spencer was attending a meeting of the town council, and made a motion for the council to act upon, when, the moment he uttered the last word, and was about to take his seat, he suffered an acute attack of heart disease and fell to the floor. He breathed his last before the friend nearest him could reach his side. Mr. Spencer was in his 56th year, and was apparently hearty and vigorous. He was a man of most lovable traits, magnetic, who adhered to the highest ideals of life, and was extremely popular with all who knew him. He was born November 16, 1866, in Catahoula parish, La., and graduated from Tulane University. He was at one time assistant secretary of state of Louisiana, and had lived in Tallulah for many years. He is survived by his son, Mason Spencer, who lives in Tallulah and who was associated with his father in the practice of law, and a daughter, Mrs. Carneal Goldman, wife of a prominent planter of Tensas parish. Interment in Tallulah cemetery. From Tallulah Madison Journal February 13, 1922 RESOLUTIONS OF RESPECT To the Honorable, the Ninth Judicial District Court for the Parish of Madison and State of Louisiana. Your Committee respectfully reports the following resolutions of respect to the memory of George Spencer, who departed this life February 7, 1322: BE IT RESOLVED: That in the untimely death of George Spencer, cut down in his prime, when experience had matured his judgment and fitted him for years more of useful work in the world, the Bar has lost a worthy member, of marked ability, zealous in the interest of his clients, yet always ready to meet his opponent in a spirit of fairness and justice, to prevent or to put an end to controversy. He was always courteous and considerate in his relations with brother Attorneys, and to each one of us with whom he was associated, his death is a personal loss. He was the architect of his own fortunes, always a builder, along all lines, both mental and material. His was always work of construction and improvement, and pursued with rare foresight and untiring energy. His services and his purse were always ready to support any enterprise or movement for the benefit of the town, for which he had done so much in building and improving. By his own efforts he had, in a few short years, justly attained high position as a lawyer, and as a citizen. Resolved further that while we humbly bow to the will of the Almighty God in removing our brother from his earthly labors, we deplore he loss to his family, to the Bar and to this Community in which his life was spent, and in the upbuilding of which he was always an active factor. Resolved further: That these resolutions be spread upon the minutes of the Court as a lasting tribute of respect, and that the same be published and a copy sent to the family of our deceased brother.
