E. Speed Dies; Funeral Services This Afternoon Charles E. Speed, 68, for many years a resident of Madison parish, passed away yesterday at 6:00 o'clock in the morning at a hospital in Monroe. Mr. Speed had been in ill health for a number of years, but when he was taken to the hospital took a turn for the worse last Friday. He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Susie B. Speed, and a brother, W. M. Speed, of Duncan, Miss., besides a nephew, Geo. Speed of Tallulah. Funeral services will be held in Tallulah this afternoon at 2:30 when the Rev. W. H. Giles will officiate. Pallbearers will be R. M. Almond, Myles Hopkins, J. E. Neill, C. E. Hester, Geo. Schraff and Neal McHenry. From Vicksburg Evening Post, June 1, 1940 RITES HELD FOR CHARLES E. SPEED TALLULAH, La., June 1-Funeral services for Charles E. Speed, well known planter of Monroe and a former resident of Madison parish who died at a Monroe hospital Thursday morning were held from the Methodist church here Friday afternoon. Rev. W. H. Giles of Homer and Rev. D. W. Poole, pastor of the local church officiated. Interment was in Silver Cross cemetery here. Mr. Speed is survived by his wife Mrs. Mittie Key Speed, a teacher in the Tallulah High school, a daughter, Miss Susie B. Speed of Columbia, a brother, W. M. Speed of Duncan, Miss., a half brother, French Tierce of Bowling Green, Ky., and a half sister, Nannie Inge of Memphis also survive. The pall bearers were Myles Hopkins, R. M. Almond, J. E. Neill, C. E. Hester, George Schaff and M. A. Phillips.
