"Pete" Smith - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal, April 27, 1956 Rites For 'Pete' Smith Saturday Funeral services for William D. "Pete" Smith, age 43, who died of a heart attack April 19, while assisting other officers in hunting down escapees from Texas was held Saturday morning at 10 a. m. at the Warsaw Baptist Church with the Rev. Charlie Arnold officiating assisted by the Rev. Irvin Cheyney of the Tallulah First Baptist Church. Young's Funeral Home ambulance was called to the scene where Mr. Smith had the attack, but he was dead on arrival of the ambulance. An investigation was held on the spot and it was reported he had died within five minutes with a heart block. A native of Union Parish, he was a member of the Crowville Masonic Lodge and a member of the Royal Arch Lodge of Tallulah, and a member of the Baptist Church. Interment was held in the Cemetery at Crowville and the Crowville Masonic Lodge administered the last rites. Arrangements were under the direction of Young's Funeral Home. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. xxxree Antley Smith; three brothers, Herman Smith of Tallulah, Xxxx Smith of Baton Rouge, and Xxxx Smith of the Warsaw Community; two daughters, Caroline and Xxxx Smith of the Warsaw Community; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Smith of the Warsaw Community; two brothers; Adrian Clayton, and Duke Smith; one sister, Mrs. Charles Xxx of Monroe, and two grandchildren. Pallbearers were members of Crowville Masonic Lodge.
