Smith - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal, September 1943 Rites Are Held Monday Afternoon For T. A. Smith Thurston A. Smith, 68, for many years deputy sheriff and planter of this parish, died at a Vicksburg hospital Sunday afternoon after a long illness. Mr. Smith was a native of Brandon, Miss., but had lived in Tallulah for many years, especially during the time that the late Dr. G. H. Ogbourne was mayor, marshal of Tallulah, later becoming a deputy in the sheriff's office during the term of the late Andrew J. Sevier. Many were the criminals and evil-doers that he took into custody and his name was mentioned with great respect among those who were criminally inclined, especially those of that nature among the local population. The funeral was held at the Tallulah Methodist Church Monday afternoon. Rev. Henry A. Rickey officiated. Interment was in Silver Cross cemetery. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife; three sons, R. A. Smith of Homer, La., Lieutenant E. Cecil Smith, Brooks Field, San Antonio, Texas; T. A. Smith, Jr., Tallulah and three grandchildren; E. Cecil. Smith, Jr.,
