SMITH OF TALLULAH PASSES TALLULAH, La., Nov. 15 -John Charles Smith, aged 31 years, died Friday night at his home in Tallulah. He had been an invalid for many years. Mr. Smith was born at Kensett, Arkansas, May 23, 1910, reared in Blytheville, Ark., and had been a resident of Tallulah. He was a member of the Baptist church. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Smith, two sisters, Misses Ruth and Joan, both of Tallulah, two brothers, Brax of St. Louis and H. G. Jr., of Tallulah, five uncles and aunts. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p. m. with Rev. D. W. Poole of the Methodist church officiating, assisted by Rev. J. L. McMullin. From Madison Journal November 21, 1941 Former Football Player Succumbs From Old Injury Funeral services for John Chas. Smith, 30, were held here Sunday afternoon with Rev. D. W. Poole, pastor of the Tallulah Methodist Church, officiating, assisted by I. L. McMullen, layman of the local Baptist Church. Mr. Smith was a native of Kensett, Arkansas, and had resided in Blytheville, Arkansas, before coming to Tallulah four years ago. While living at Blytheville, he suffered a broken neck while playing in a football game, being a star on the team of the Blytheville High School Chicks. He attracted the attention of the medical profession, as they did not expect him to survive. However, he lived for 12 years. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Smith, removed from Blytheville, to Tallulah four years ago and he has resided here with them ever since. His death occurred Friday night. At one time he had recovered so that he was able to walk with a cane, but for the past three years he has been an invalid. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Smith, two sisters, Ruth E. and Joan Smith, and a brother, H. G. Smith, of Tallulah, and another brother, Brax E. Smith of St. Louis, and five aunts and five uncles. Pail bearers were George Pickle of Jackson, Mississippi; Roney Chisom of Natchez, Mississippi, and John Gaines, Fred Edgerton, Gene Watson and Max Watson of Tallulah, The services were held from the residence.
