Smith - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Vicksburg Post, January 18, 2011 Barbara R. Smith died Monday, Jan. 17, 2011, at Vicksburg Promise Specialty Hospital. She was 79. Born in Tallulah, Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late Urbon Thomas Raines and Mary Grubbs Raines. She had been a resident Vicksburg most of her life and was a graduate of Culkin Academy. Mrs. Smith was the bookkeeper for Allen’s Dairy for a number of years. She later owned and operated Happy Days Day Care Center for 22 years prior to her retirement. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and the St. Paul Altar Society. She is survived by her husband, Stanley G. Smith of Vicksburg; son, Sean Smith (Brenda) of Bakersfield, Calif.; four daughters, Debbie Smith of Brandon, Liz Taylor (Glenn), Terrie Falls (T.C.), and Christy Smith, all of Vicksburg; eight grandchildren, Hope Branning, Heather Schoenheit (Bill), Lauren Taylor, Anna Taylor, Jeremy Falls, Allie Falls, Samantha Smith and Stanley Bufkin; two great-grandchildren, Jordan Ashley and Chandler Ashley; brother, Wallace Raines of Vicksburg; and brother-in-law, Gaines Smith of Batesville. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Dawson Smith; five sisters; and two brothers. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Promise Specialty Hospital and Mrs. Smith’s sitters for their love and concern. A funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Catholic Church with Monsignor Patrick Farrell, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 5 until 7 at Riles Funeral Home and Wednesday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the service. Memorials may be made to Vicksburg Catholic School, 1900 Grove St., Vicksburg, MS 39183; St. Paul Catholic Church, 713 Crawford St., Vicksburg, MS 39180; or to favorite charities. Pallbearers will be Greg Gastrell, Tim Raines, Tommy Raines, Stanley Bufkin, Sam Gastrell, Mark Smith, Jerry Falls and Len Raines. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the St. Paul Catholic Church Altar Society, Dr. W. Briggs Hopson Jr. and Chandler Ashley.
