All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************ Frank Sistrunk - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal, September 7, 1951 Frank Sistrunk Frank Sistrunk Killed In Korea Brother, Edward Sistrunk, Injured In Car Wreck In Mississippi Tuesday afternoon of this week, Mrs. Lillian R. Sistrunk, of Thomastown, La., received word that her son, Edward David Sistrunk, 33, whose residence is listed as Tallulah, was in an automobile accident near Laurel, Miss., and would probably lose his left arm. Edward, who is employed by Southwestern Oil Co., was enroute home from work Tuesday afternoon when he was sideswiped by another car near Waynesboro, Miss., approximately 30 miles from Laurel. He was taken to Wayne County Hospital, where attending physicians reported that in all probabilities, he would lose his left arm. Report on the accident stated that he had been driving with his left arm resting on the door. Up until press time no further information had been received concerning his condition. Several hours after Edward's to accident, Mrs. Sistrunk was notified by the War epartment that another son, Lt. (s.g.) Frank Sistrunk, Naval fighter pilot, was reported killed in action in Korea. Lt. Sistrunk, 29, reared and educated in Madison Parish, enlisted in the Naval Air Corps in May, 1942. During World War II he was reported to have been shot down twice by the enemy, and was aboard the carrier, Liscom Bay when it was torpedoed. He was discharged from active service in July, 1950, and was recalled to active duty January, 5, 1951. Following his recall to duty, he was stationed at San Diego, Calif. until June 29th of this year, when he was transferred to Hawaii. He was transferred from there to Korea a short time ago. He is survived by his wife, the former Miss Helen Lepkowski, of Detroit, Mich., and two daughters, Rita and Christine, residing at Palm City, Calif.; his mother; five brothers, Earl Sistrunk, U. S. Merchant Marine; Ray Sistrunk, Ainsworth, Iowa ; Edward Sistrunk, Tallulah; W. E. Sistrunk, Tallulah; Creighton Sistrunk, Monticello, Miss.; three sisters, Mrs. T. J. Lott, Thomastown, La.; Mrs. Walter James, Tallulah; Mrs. C. H. Longest, Bakersfield, Calif.
