All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************ John Vertner Sevier - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal, June 5, 1959 John Sevier Dies Thursday In Vicksburg Mr. John Sevier died Thursday morning at a Vicksburg hospital following a long illness. Mr. Sevier was a retired merchant and had lived here all his life. Funeral arrangements are incomplete, but it is expected that services will be held today (Friday) at the Tallulah Presbyterian Church, with burial following in the Silver Cross Cemetery. Mr. Sevier leaves his wife, Mrs. Virginia Vernon Sevier, one daughter, Jane Vernon Sevier, two sisters, Mrs. Mason Spencer of Tallulah, and Mrs. C. J. B. Dixon of Philadelphia, Pa. From Tallulah Madison Journal, June 12, 1959 Services Held On Friday For John V. Sevier Funeral services were held last Friday afternoon at 3 p. m. at the Presbyterian Church for John V. Sevier, who died Thursday in a Vicksburg hospital following a long illness. Mr. Sevier was a native of Mississippi, but had resided in Madison Parish nearly all his life. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, a veteran of World War I, and a member of the American Legion. He was a retired businessman. Rev. Kenneth Book and Rev. D. L. O'Neal were in charge or the services. Burial followed in the Silver Cross Cemetery under the direction of Crothers Funeral Home. Mr. Sevier is survived by his wife, Mrs. Virginia Sevier; one daughter, Miss Jane Vernon Sevier, both of Tallulah; and two sisters, Mrs. Mason Spencer of Tallulah, and Mrs. Charlie Dixon of Philadelphia. Pallbearers were Henry C. Sevier, Jr., M. C. Sevier, Warren Sevier, A. L. Sevier, Jr., Howard Sevier, Jim Folk, Jack Folk and Barton Sevier.
