All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************ Alice Peterkin Sevier - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal, January 28, 1966 Mrs. Vert Sevier Dies in Monroe Mrs. Vert Sevier, before her marriage, Miss Alice Peterkin of Tallulah died in St. Joseph's Home in Monroe, La. on Tuesday afternoon of this week. She had made her home in Tallulah until a few years ago when she went to live in the nursing home. She was 87 years old. Mrs. Sevier was born in Morehouse parish, near Bastrop, La. Her mother's father was a prominent pioneer of the community, Dr. Turpin, a physician there before the Civil War. She came to Madison Parish in 1900 to make her home and in 1904 married Mr. Vert Sevier. Mrs. Sevier's friends loved her for her cheerful disposition, and interest in all she knew. She was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church and was a member of the Eastern Star. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Stanton Bettis, and one brother, Mr. Fred Peterkin Also a stepdaughter, Mrs. Mason Spencer. Nieces, Mrs. Edward Eiland, Mrs. W. C. Starrett of Tallulah, Mrs. William Parkerson of Baton Rouge, La., Miss Ann Ward and Miss Margaret Ward of Tallulah, La., and a nephew George Peterkin of Houston, Texas. Funeral services were held Thursday at 2 P. M. from Cupit-Young funeral home, with the Rev. William Spillman conducting the Episcopal services. Interment was in Silver Cross Cemetery in the family plot. Pall bearers were: Don Sevier, Malcom Sevier, Jim Sevier, Barton Sevier, Howard Sevier, George Spencer, Henry C. Sevier, Jr. and George Eggleston.
