All rights reserved. *********************************************************************************************** Andrew J Sevier - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Madison Journal August 5, 1916 Andrew J Sevier died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. S. Agee, Tallulah, Thursday, the first inst. Mr. Sevier has been in failing health for several years and his death was not unexpected, it was, nevertheless, a shock to his friends and relatives. Mr. Sevier had been a resident of Madison for a number of years and had been prominent in business affairs until his retirement several years ago on the account of ill health. Mr. Sevier was born in Port Gibson, Claiborne County, Miss., January 8, 1844, and was the son of Dr. George W Sevier and Sarah Knox. He was the grandnephew of the wife of President Andrew Jackson and the great-grandson of John Sevier, of Tennessee. He served in the Confederate Army from 1861 to 1865, Company K, 12th Mississippi Regiment, and his surviving comrades have often referred to his loyalty to the lost cause and to the bravery displayed by him in its defense. The remains were buried at the Tallulah Cemetery Wednesday morning. The services were conducted by Rev. Mr. Hillhouse, of Vicksburg, Miss. Mr. Sevier left one son, Andrew J. Sevier, the present sheriff of Madison parish, and five daughters, Mrs. C. S. Utz, of Brown's Wells, Miss., Mrs. L. F. Young, of Vicksburg, Miss., Mrs. W. J Ward, of St. Joseph, La., Mrs. A. C. Williamson, of Readland, Ark., and Mrs. J S Agee, of Tallulah.
