Funeral service for Opal Self, 75, of West Monroe will be
held at 2:00 PM, Friday, August 10, 2012 at McClendon Baptist Church.
Dr. Kevin Stewart,
Rev.
Rick Crandall and Rev. James Gardner will be officiating. Interment will follow
at Roselawn Memorial Gardens under the
direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe.
Mrs. Self was born May 24, 1937 in Tallulah, LA and passed away August 7, 2012
in West Monroe.
Mrs. Self was a faithful member of McClendon Baptist Church where she cooked
the Wednesday night meals and was the Sunday School
teacher
for the one year old class for many years. She was retired from O.P.S.B. as a
cafeteria manager at West Monroe High School. Mrs. Self was a loving
wife, mother, grandmother and friend. One of Mrs. Self's greatest joys was
cooking Sunday meals for years for all of her family.
Mrs. Self is preceded in death by her parents; John and Avis Scott; sisters,
Marion Hillman, Rose Moore; brother; Michael Scott and a son-in-law,
Mark Young.
Mrs. Self is survived by her husband, Pete Self; 4 children; Clyde Self and
wife Cindy, Sherry Stokes and husband Buddy, John Self and wife Liz, and
Rita Young; brothers; John Scott Jr. and wife Stella, William Scott and wife
Judy, George Scott and wife Amy; sisters; Alma Rollins, Anne Morgan and
Helen Breedlove; 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jared Self, Jacob Self, Bradley Young, Justin Lawrence,
Doug Self and Bernard Powell.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 9, 2012 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at
McClendon Baptist Church.
Special thanks to McClendon Baptist Church family for their support and prayers
during Mrs. Self's illness and to Jessica Sharp and Dr. Weinberger.
