All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************** Philip Joseph Scurria Sr. - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal November 14, 1990 Funeral services with full military honors for Mr. Philip Joseph Scurria Sr. were held at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Edwards Catholic Church with Father Terry Allen, Father Silvin Waterkotte and Rev. John Rushing officiating. Providing special music was Riley Harper. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery under direction of Crothers Funeral Home. A Prayer Service for Mr. Scurria was held Thursday night at Crothers Funeral Home. Mr. Scurria died Wednesday, Nov 7 at Delta Haven Nursing Home. He was a native of Tallulah and a graduate of Louisiana Tech. He attended Tulane Medical School and served in the armed forces as a medical technician. He served in the Pacific aboard the U.S.S. Bronx during World War II. Mr. Scurria was a businessman in Tallulah for 41 years, a member of the American Legion and a member of St. Edward Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Spencer Scurria of Tallulah; one son, Dr. Philip Joseph Scurria Jr. of New Iberia; one daughter, Nan Scurria Mathis of Lafayette; two sisters, Mary Ann Giliberto of Henderson, Nev. and Grace O'Neal of Swartz; one brother, Sam J. Scurria of Tallulah; seven grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Herbert Massey, Nolan Smith, Louis Nettles, Frank Hover; Edgar Lancast-er, Maurice Ursery, Myron Erwin and Carroll Crow. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. L. P. Neumann, Dr. Troy Redmon, Dr. William Wassell, Dr. Clinton Lewis, Dr. L. O. Broussard, Dr. Burt Bujard, Rev. Ramon Warren, Rev. Marty Borcherding and Bob Williams. The family requests that memorials be made to St. Judes Childrens Hospital or to cancer research.
