All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************ Joseph Michael Scurria - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal November 7, 1968 Final Rites For Joseph Michael Scurria Held Tuesday Morning Funeral services for Joseph Michael Scurria, 19, who was killed early Sunday morning after a car-truck accident at Kenner, La., were held Tuesday morning at 10 a. m. in St. Edwards Catholic Church here. The Revs. Joseph Montalbano, pastor of St. Edwards and A. Carson of St. Joseph officiated. Burial followed in Silver Cross Cemetery under the direction of Crothers Funeral Home. A graduate of Tallulah High School, young Scurria was a student at Louisiana State University at the time of his death. In his senior year at THS was very active as a photographer, winning the State 4-H Photography Contest in August and wona sectional trip winner to the 45th National 4-H club Congress in Chicago and received an Eastman Kodak Certificate in photography. Locally he was appointed as a reporter-photographer for the Vicksburg Evening Post for the Tallulah, Newellton and St. Joseph area, as well as official photographer for the Chamber of Commerce and the Madison Jaycees. He was altar boy at the Catholic Church for seven years and a member of St. Edwards Altar Guild. He received his high school diploma at Tallulah High School in June, 1967. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam J. Scurria, five brothers, Andrew Scurria, Edward Scurria, Gerald Scurria, John Scurria, and Sam Scurria, Jr.; and two sisters Nancy Catherine Scurria and Angela Marie Scurria, all of Tallulah. Pallbearers were, W. P. Sevier Jr., Judge C. C. Adams, R. R. Mitchell, Max McDonald, Senator Charles M. Brown, Maurice Ursery and N. A. White.
