"Buddy" Scott, Jr., Dies From Explosion Burns Sunday Night:Services Held Tuesday At Residence Walter M. "Buddy" Scott, Jr., 42, prominent Madison Parish planter, cattleman and business leader, died Sunday night in a Vicksburg hospital. Mr. Scott was severely burned in an explosion in his office about four weeks ago. He had been hospitalized in a Vicksburg hospital ever since the accident. Services were held Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock at his residence with the Rev. Parkerson,rector of Trinity Episcopal Church officiating, assisted by the Rev. William P. Mayo, pastor of the First Methodist Church. Interment followed in Silver Cross Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home. Mr. Scott, a native of Tallulah, received his education at Tallulah High School and Castle Heights at Lebanon, Tenn. He graduated from Louisiana State University. He was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity, a member of the board of directors and vice president of Southern National Bank, a member of the board of directors of the American Soybean Association, vice president of the Madison Parish Police Jury, a member of the board of directors of Tideland Life Insurance Company, past member of the board of directors of Louisiana Delta Council, the American Legion, the Episcopal Church and the Madison Parish Chamber of Commerce. He is survived by his widow, Joan Kathan Scott; two sons, Walter M. Scott III and Joseph Kathan Scott; a daughter, Susan Scott, all of Tallulah; his mother, Mrs. Walter M. Scott, and the grandmother Mrs. Henry L. Fuqua, widow of the former Louisiana governor of Tallulah; an uncle, Henry L. Fuqua, Jr., Baton Rouge; two cousins, Warren Patrick, Tallulah, and Mrs. W. H. Wright, Jr., Baton Rouge; and an aunt, Mrs. John Patrick, Tallulah. Pallbearers were Herbert Day, Carneal Goldman, Charles Arneson, Robert Graves, Cliff Adams, Edgar Lancaster, Jr., Malcolm Cagnolatti and J. H. Bryant. Honorary pallbearers were W. W. Workman, Dr. H. S. Provine, Dr. John Gray of Baton Rouge, Lt. Col. E. Cecil Smith, Salina, Kansas, and members of the board of directors of the Southern National Bank, members of the Madison Parish Police Jury, the staff of Vicksburg Hospital and all very close friends of the family.
