All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************** Erle Read, Jr. - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal June 11, 2003 Erle Read, Jr., died in Starkville, Miss., June 3, 2003, after a brief illness. He was born in Tallulah April 30, 1924, to Ruth Lane Read and Erle Read, Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents and a niece, Caroline Calhoun. Mr. Read was a 1947 graduate of Louisiana Tech in Ruston. He worked for several years at the Agricultural Experiment Station near Tallulah, after which he was employed from 1964 until his death at the USDA Agricultural Research Service in Starkville. He was an active worker at his church, volunteering many hours of service. He is survived by a sister, Ruth Read Calhoun, of Ruston; two nephews, John Read Calhoun, of Oklahoma City, and Dr. Andrew D. Calhoun and wife Jaye Calhoun, and their son of West Monroe and New Orleans; and a niece, Julia Calhoun Ilarris and her husband James, and their two daughters of Raleigh, N.C., and by a number of cousins and many friends. Services were at the First United Methodist Church of Starkville at 10 a.m., June 6. Memorials may be made to the church in Starkville, the United Methodist Church in Tallulah, or the Louisiana Methodist Children's Home in Ruston.
