All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************** Douglas Evon Purvis - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal April 22, 1998 Funeral services for Mr. Douglas Evon Purvis, age 71, were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, in the Melbourne Baptist Church, with the Rev. James Hayes and the Rev. G. E. Chance officiating. Burial followed in the Memorial Park Cemetery of Tallulah. Mr. Purvis died Monday, April 20, 1998, in St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in Houston, Texas, after a brief illness. He was born in Mississippi and had lived in Transylvania for 47 years. He attended Melbourne Baptist Church in Transylvania and was a retired employee of the East Carroll Parish School Board, where he had worked for 30 years. He had also farmed in the community. Survivors include his wife, Bessie Lea Purvis of Transylvania; one son, Bobby Ray Rawls of Rayville; three brothers: John W Purvis of Panola, Miss., Charlie U. Purvis of Tallulah and Joseph D. Purvis of Bastrop; two sisters: Lois Machen of Sondheimer and Romarie Martin of Raleigh, Miss.; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Lewis Purvis, Johnny Purvis, Edward Purvis, John Purvis, Edgar Purvis, Roy Purvis, Robert Purvis, Quinton Purvis and Kevin Purvis. Honorary pallbearers were Kenneth Martin, Raymond Stanfield, James Oscar Thornton, Ralph Coleman, Doug Webb, Elmer Schepers, Maurice Machen and Paul Machen. Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home of Tallulah was in charge of arrangements.
