Purvis died Monday, May 1, 2006, at his home in Tallulah. He was 77. Born in Raleigh, Mr. Purvis had lived in Madison Parish for most of his life. A farmer, he was a member of Willow Bayou Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Lou Ann Cox Purvis of Tallulah; three sons, Robert J. Purvis and Quintin R. Purvis, both of Tallulah, and Roy U. Purvis of Memphis; two daughters, Charlene A. Dillon of Tylertown and Fleeta M. Purvis of Pearl; two sisters, Lois Machen of Tallulah and Romarie Martin of Raleigh; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and other relatives. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Tallulah with the Revs. John W. Rushing and John Magnuson officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be nephews, Johnny Purvis, Edgar Purvis, Kevin Purvis, Louis Purvis, George Edward Purvis and Paul Machen. Honorary pallbearers will be Armon Cox, Horace Russell, Bud Taylor, Maurice Machen, Bobby Rawls and Kenneth Martin.
