All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************** Benny Prewitt - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal December 8, 1999 Funeral services for Mr. Benny Prewitt, 76, of Tallulah, were held Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999, in the chapel of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home with Rev: John Rushing and Dr. Stan Wilkins officiating. Burial followed in the Silver Cross Cemetery. Mr. Prewitt died Thursday, Dec. 2, in the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Jackson, Miss, after a brief illness. He was born in Tallulah and was a life-long resident. He was a painter and carpenter. Mr. Prewitt was an Army veteran and received many citations for bravery. He was a member and officer of American Legion Post #100. Ile was a member of First Baptist Church of Tallulah. Benny served as a technician 5th grade, Hq. Co. 2nd Bn., 120th Infantry as an antitank gun crewman at Ardennes, Rhineland, Central Europe, Normandy and northern France. He was wounded twice and received two Purple Hearts, the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Distinguished Unit Badge, Good Conduct Medal and the European, African, and Middle-Eastern Theatre of Occupation Medals. Benny was an accomplished carpenter and painter for more than 60 years. Evan Felts, family friend, sang and accompanied himself on the guitar with a tribute to Benny. Cameron and Ashton Machen, great-niece and nephew of Benny, sang My Country 'Tis of Thee, for their uncle Benny as Evan accompanied them on the harmonica. Dr. Stan Wilkins, nephew of Benny, delivered a touching eulogy to his uncle going back through Benny's illustrious military career and accomplishments. Survivors include two sisters: Gloria P. Arender, Tallulah and Pat P. Porter, Monroe; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be members of American Legion Post #100 Scott-Nicols-Volk. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Black, Lee `Sonny" Felts, and Billy Post.
